Hi Guys,
I am not really nervous taking the neta 4, I am more anxious of taking it and see how hard it is. I don not have a reviewer aside from the study guide and the practice exam on this site. So if any of you have a review material for neta 4 I would really appreciate having it. Thanks and happy new year.

There are guys at my shop that have failed the level 4 test more than twice. Its a very hard test.
I have taken the level four exam ,they had about three question about distance relays. Also they had question about capacitors on motors .There was no questions on the Test Guys level four that was on the Neta level four.

As I remember more of them and get time I will post them ,I will tell you the right answer if you need help after you try on your own.

Thanks so much Larry! I'm going to work on finding answers for these so we can submit them to the mods and hopefully get them added to the practice exams. :D

Hi Larry, is the answer on this one 150Kvar assuming 3 150Kvar are in series and the 3 x 3 150Kvar are in parallel to form a delta bank?

150 X 9 = 1350 KVAR it does not matter if they are delta or wye connected. This question is in the electrical PE exam.

I took the NETA 4 today. there are absolutely zero questions from this NETA 4 study guide that are on the actual test (at least the version i took). there are variations of the 4 just as there are of 2 and 3. I only had about 3 level 3 questions on the test. the remaining questions were challenging.
Several distance relaying questions, several KWH standard questions, a few breaker tripping scenario questions, and a lot of power calculations. I also ran into several rotating machinery questions. A lot of these were very difficult for me as i am not well versed on the construction of older motors.
Study all aspects of the topics listed above if you are scheduled to take this test.

Recommend studying kwh standards and calculations, rotating machinery, distance relaying, grounding, as well as power and fault calculations.

I do remember a few questions but this one sticks out in my mind:
A single line feeds 2 separate loads. The first load is 1200kw at .80 pf. The second load is 800kva and 300 kvar. What is the total load on the single line feeder?
I don't remember all of the answers but you can get the idea. I do remember calculating the loads in both directions so as to back up my answer. I doubt you would see this question in the exact same numerology but at least you can get a leg up on a calculation like this. Good luck. Bob.

New to the sight, taking the Level 4 at the end of July... I could use all the tips I can get....
I've got an unrelated question... How many NETA Level 4 Techs are there?

There are quite a few level 4 members on this site and some pretty sharp level 3's as well. :p You can usually find them by browsing the Level 4 forum, if you post any questions about the test someone will probably help you out. -> http://testguy.net/forums/10-Level-4-Senior-ETT
As far as study tips for the Level 4, here are a few threads to get you started:

Thanks for the info... I was wondering how many Level 4 techs there are in the country, or, in NETA as a whole...
Just curious

No problem. I am not sure how many NETA 4 techs there are nationwide but I would bet it's very few compared to Levels 2 and 3. There are many prerequisites and the NETA 4 exam is rumored to be as hard as the PE test. I am looking to take the NETA 4 as well so I would be am to know how it goes. Best of luck to you!

Non-directional?
As a matter of fact this type of distance relay will be directional. The Impedance relay is non-directional that is why it needs a directional unit in it.

d. None of the above ????
The pickup is 6 amps. You will need (6 * Sqrt 3 = 10.392) 2 currents at 10.392 amps, one at 0 degrees the other at 180 degrees.
IA = 10.392 @ 0 , IB = 10.392 @ 180 and IC = 0.

At one time i knew it was only like 156 level 4 technicians world wide. Company i work for has 1 and have 2 more very skilled engineers (one is already a PE) talking it this testing period.

There are some things I looked at online but I still failed my test because I had nothing related to what I studied and the questions are very tricky. I need to study a bit more. I only studied 3 days and it is not enough.
Here are some thing I looked at:

Subscribe to "mhmd saad" channel on you tube. The guy has a bunch of awesome information.
I have a bunch of IEEE and ANSI standards that I didn't look at because I thought it is not necessary but I will study them next time.
Those of you who want them please send me an email address via personal message and I will send them to you.
I took my level 2 and 3 in the same day about 6 months ago and I studied only about 8 hours because my 2nd daughter was born a month and a half early and that completely messed up my plans. I have a foreign electrical power bachlor's degree therefore most of the calculation questions are easy for me to solve but I still feel like I underestimated the level 4 test which I shouldn't have.

I somehow expected more out of the exam. There was a good bit of hype about how tough the exam was, but it seemed kinda cheesy to me. I had tougher circuits problems on my Level 3 exam.
Make sure you understand how to calculate through-fault current on a transformer. Know how to determine the pick-up point on a relay installed on the primary winding of a transformer if you're looking to protect for a secondary side fault. Know basic test instrument questions. Know common ANSI device numbers. I had been hearing that there was a lot of watt-hour meter questions, but I believe my exam only had 1 or 2 on that topic.
There were several questions that I didn't know, but I could reason my way through. Several of the questions have at least 2 answers that are dead throw-aways. At that point, you're down to a 50/50 shot at right or wrong.
Good luck to all of you going forward! :)

I thought the level 4 test was an essay-like test (no multiple choice)?
