The electric utility provider charges 15.088 cents per kilowatt hour of electricity. In a month a customer uses 236 kilowatt hours of electricity, how much is the customer charged?

unless i am doing the math wrong (236 / 0.15088) = 1,564.156

unless i am doing the math wrong (236 / 0.15088) = 1,564.156

0.15088 x 236 = 35.60768

I try and keep all units when doing math so I don't divide when I should multiply and vice versa. For this example;

$0.15088/kW-Hr * 236 kW-Hr = $35.61

You can see that the "kW-Hr" in the $0.15088/kW-Hr cancels the "kW-Hr" in the 236 kW-Hr so all you are left with is $. If you divide, the "kW-Hr" becomes squared and the answer is $1,564.16/kW-Hr^2 which does not make any sense.

Its cost per kilowatt hour, so you would multiply the cost of each, 15.088 cents, by the number used. then move your decimal place over two to convert to dollars.
