Which insulation requires stepping I answered EPR I believe the other choices were XLPE or oil insulated any thought?

I spliced many PILC cables and they required stepping of the paper insulation layers. 3/4" long steps, 4-5 steps if I remember well.
Never had to step the insulation of either EPR or XLPE.

PILC is getting rare, splices are only done for repairs.

Which type of insulation requires stepping?

a.EPR
b.Oil impregnated paper
c.XLP
d.XLPE
e.EPM

I am pretty sur its not EPR or XLPE.

I am leaning on the oil impregnated paper I think these were often tested with AC (PILC) not sure... what voltage its actually required! some will say only above 35kV.
