    Comments: Basic Test Equipment: Insulation Resistance Tester

    I spoke to a technician at the "Megger" manufacturing company and found the test needs to be at least 30 seconds in order to acheive a stable reading.

    You examine a test instrument commonly used to measure insulation resistance on equipment rated 600V or lower. The output of the test instrument is 1000 volts and the lead connections are?
    I don't understand the correct solution is none of the above. Is there any one can give an explanation?

    Why negative terminal connected to Line(conductor), positive to earth or body of conductor

    Your question clarified my problem when I saw the diagram. L is the negative terminal and E is a positive terminal on the megger instrument. In real life, we do not deal with conventional current. The current flows from negative to positive hence Insulation is measured when leakage current flows from conductor to the Insulation.
