Correct test voltage for 5KV cable?

    • Codes and Standards
    34. In accordance with NETA and IEEE standards the correct maintenance test voltage (dc) for 5KV rated EPR 133% insulation level cable is?
    Your Answer: 14kV
    Correct Answer: 11kV
    Help: NETA-MTS 2015 TABLE 100.6.1

Is this correct as per NETA/ATS 2017. The way I am reading the standard it should be 36kV dc. Is this correct?.

The question is looking to a maintenance voltage not acceptance.

I am looking at NETA ATS-2017 table 100.6.1 and it says that for 5kV rated cable the maximum DC field Test Voltage During/After Installation for 133% Insulation Level is 36kV. I am trying to understand where the 11kV answer comes from. Any idea?.

You need to look at the NETA MTS table 100.6 which is the maintenance standards. The ATS is acceptance testing which will be a higher value to ensure reliability.

Very Thankful. Are you memorizing all these values?. I am not sure what values to memorize?.

There are some hold-out customers that still use DC. Mainly city utilities where politics make it difficult to change the specs. That being said, some old site engineers aren't convinced either. I test DC a couple times a year for new cable.
