    Clamp on ammeter recommendations

I am in need of a new clamp on meter for small currents in the .170 A range.

Does anyone have recommendations for meters?

I am looking at the Extech 380947.

    Thanks in advance.

    Alan.

Is there a reason why you want a meter opposed to an accessory for a DMM? Depending on what you are using for Amprobe makes small clamp ons and Ive seen some mini-flex cts also.

It depends on what you need to use if for and who is paying for it. I personally never liked Extech, but Amprobe and Fluke make good clamp-ons. If my company is paying for it, I tend to prefer Fluke as they are slightly overpriced compared to competitors. My last company we used an amprobe clothesline size amp transducer for use on low currents. They were small enough to close on your pinkie, but became problematic on larger cables. Clamp-ons are great for larger cables, but can be a problem in tight spaces. Here's a couple links for some that I've used in the past and had no problems. That being said, I've never tried to read leakage current, but smaller currents around 1 amp.

+1 this. I don't care for Extech either, the name Amprobe says it all.
