Sometimes it might be necessary to connect to the Dranetz HDPQ to your PC for remote viewing. This is most helpful when you need to see or control the unit if its located inside a piece equipment or inaccessible for safety reasons.
Connecting to the Dranetz directly using Ethernet can be a challenge because it requires manual Windows Network Settings. Unfortunately the user guide from Dranetz is not very clear on how to do this, so I thought it would be helpful to make this walk-through.
1. Configure Dranetz Communication Settings
1a. Setup Instrument -> Setup Communication Options
1b. Set DHCP to NO
1c. Set IP address to 192.168.0.30
1d. Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
1e. Gateway, DNS Server can be blank
1f. Add a name, if desired.
2. Configure PC Communication Settings (Windows 7)
2a. Open Network Connections from Control Panel
2b. Access Properties for the Network Adapter connected to the Dranetz by right click -> properties
2c. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click properties
2d. Select “Use the Following IP Address”
2e. Set IP to 192.168.0.31
2f. Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
2g. Set Gateway to IP address of Dranetz (192.168.0.30)
3. Launch VNC Viewer from DranView
3a. Insert DranView Dongle into PC and start DranView
3b. Click on the VNC icon on the program menu bar under Dranetz HDPQ Live
3c. Click New to create a new data source connection
3d. Give the data source a name (if desired)
3e. Set IP address to Dranetz address (192.168.0.30)
3f. Default password is “Dranetz” (case sensitive, no quotes)
3g. Click OK to return to the Data Source selection window
3h. Highlight the new data source and click connect
3i. The PC should now be connected to the Dranetz unit in real time. You can use your mouse to control the unit as if you were using the touchscreen.
Note: Once all work is completed, change IP setting back to “Obtain IP address automatically” to avoid internet connection issues and other network conflicts.
