I recently saw a question on a level 3 practice exam asking what test method was used to clean windings, the choices were
1) oil
2) corn cobs
3) vaseline
4) fine emery dust
has anyone used any of these?

I personally have never used corn cobs (and none of the others since they would just cause more problems). We always used DI water, rags, <20psi air and a filtered suction fan.
Here's an interesting article from a Generator company which does answer the question you asked:

Cleaning may include simple wipe down, solvent spraying, dry ice blasting, dry media blasting (corn cob, walnut shell, etc.), steam cleaning, or some combination.
Thank you Rob, i couldn't find that anywhere.
