Recently took the test on cables and apparently got this question wrong. I have many years of experience in the area of locating under ground faults and without the use of a thumper to locate the fault on a high resistance fault which is comment you will have a very hard time locating it. I am assuming the option that they wanted was a TDR that will only help with a very low impedance fault and will only put you in a vicinity of the fault.
Which instrument is used to locate a 15kV underground cable fault?
Your Answer: Thumper
