NEMA 3R enclosures are compatible for both indoor or outdoor applications and holds the least demanding rating for outdoor use.

    NEMA 3R Characteristics:

Protection against incidental contact with enclosed equipment
Protection from falling dirt, rain, sleet and/or snow
    Drainage provision
Protection against rain at a level higher than the lowest live part
Alternate locking and latching mechanisms available

    d.) Zero sequence impedance

Doble criteria my company uses states that a TTR test can magnetize the core, not windings. Excitation testing is to be performed before TTR for this reason.

    Thanks

Thank you for the questions. Some of these I did not know either. More stuff to study I guess.

Excerpt from FACILITIES INSTRUCTIONS, STANDARDS, AND TECHNIQUES, VOLUME 3-31, TRANSFORMER DIAGNOSTICS

    CAUTION:
Perform the excitation test before any direct current (dc)
tests. Excitation Current Tests should never be
conducted after a dc test has been performed on the
transformer. Results will be incorrect because of
residual magnetism of the core left from the dc tests.
DC WINDING RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT is the largest DC test performed on the transformer. TTR and IR testing does not have the same power applied to cause significant magnetism.
My practice has always been to perform Power Factor Testing before any other test. I've had arguments with techs that NETA says to perform IR test first or perform IR first to check condition of Xfmr to prevent unnecessary tests (neither I agree are important as the above caution). I've always performed winding resistance last, since that same test set has the ability to de-mag the XFMR.

it will be class 4, because class 4 is IP64, class 3 is IP54, class 3R is IP14

Here are some questions from my NETA 2 test that I remembered but did not know. All help is greatly appreciated! I did not pass....AGAIN. 406/410. 4 points!!! Third time is charm right? Ugh! Best of luck to you all. You're gonna need it.

1.) What is the small notch in a fuse for?

2.) Which has the greatest TIME difference?

    a.) Extremely inverse
    b.) Inverse

Can't remember C and D sorry. I feel this may be a Level 3 question and I can honestly say the whole test felt littered with Level 3 questions!

3.) If a motor and chain are present on an OLTC, once the tap is raised to the highest level and it's still giving a raise signal, what should the OLTC motor do?

a.) motor stop, stay at raised level
b.) motor continue til raise signal is gone
c.) motor continue in reverse til back to neutral
    d.) motor stop, cool down

4.) Which XFMR test has the ability to magnetize the windings?

    a.) Power Factor
    b.) TTR
    c.) Excitiation
    d.) Zero sequence impedance

I would usually say Winding Resistance but it was not one of my choices.

5.) A Multimeter is device that:

a.) is connected in series, low impedance
b.) is connected in series, high impedance
c.) is connected parallel, low impedance
d.) is connected parallel, high impedance

6.) What is the highest pickup for a low voltage-480 system ground?

    a.) 600 A
    b.) 800 A
    c.) 1000 A
    d.) 1200 A

7.) Why do an insulation test between neutral and ground?

I read this and was confused on the wording. Are you talking service entrance or non service entrance? The question did not specify! Come on NETA. Killin me smalls....

8.) Interlock on MV MCC between switch and contactor. Why?

9.) What is the role of a VFD?

Watch for this one. The wording in the answers was VERY confusing.

10.) Testing motor circuits would best be achieved by use of?

    a.) Ohmmeter
    b.) Phase-angle meter
    c.) Ammeter
    d.) ???

And no, insulation test set was not a choice.

11.) What is the standard for testing UPS Batteries?

99% sure it is IEEE 450,1108, 1186. But what do I know??

12.) What are considered Network Protectors?

13.) You arrive to find a MV circuit breaker open. At the control panel in the adjacent room you see the mechanical switch open with a red flag. What would this indicate?

a.) The breaker lost control power
b.) The breaker was opened at the control panel

I cant remember C and D, I'm sorry!! Throw out common sense, because they clearly arent looking for that in one of their answers.

14.) What is the outdoor panel class?

    a.) Class 2
    b.) Class 3
    c.) Class 3R
    4.) Class 4

15.) How can you recognize the difference between fiber optic cables and insulated cables?

16.) What type of swtich is best used for commercial/light industrial services rated 2000/4000 A?

    a.) safety switch
    b.) metal enclosed interrupter
    c.) bolted-pressure switch
    d.) ??

I remembered 50 questions but these are the ones I recall taking the most time on when taking the test. Again, I hope this helps anyone preparing for their upcoming test and I hope someone may be able to assist in answering some of these items!

Thank you in advance and good luck to future test takers!!

from what ive seen out in the field so far. (getting to about 2 years) Ive only seen orange insulation as fiber. Its also kinda small and has a different termination then every other cable. the end kinda looks like a coax end to me
