Delta vs wye transformer advantages and disadvantages

    Hello everyone,

I’ve been trying to understand what advantages and disadvantages delta/delta vs delta/wye vs wye/wye transformers have in a power system. Specifically the transformers used at service entrance locations for industrial clients. I work on a lot of 2500kva 12470-480/277 transformers and am starting to pay attention to different winding configurations. Can anyone share any info on this matter or point me to an article?

    Thanks!

Numerous pros and cons. Here's the largest ones I can think of:

Delta systems produce reliable systems (can lose a phase and still operate), and third wave harmonics are reduced to nearly a dead short.

Wye systems produce safer systems with a Neutral that can be grounded (which means less reliability (cannot operate with phase loss)), multiple voltage classes produced from a single system (phase to phase vs phase to ground), and can be used with High resistance grounds to produce pros similar to Delta.
Thats just a few that come to mind, but there are numerous threads discussing this topic online, such as:

About midway down there's a little blurb.
I just happen to have this opened up, linked from testguy.net after taking a practice exam.
