What is the potential difference of location B in the circuit compared to location A?

    +1V

    -15V

    -14V

    +10V

How do you approach this question?

These ones are always odd when its an incomplete circuit. You just kind of have to break down the information provided.

So first thing is this is a series circuit with a current provided. This means that the current will be constant across all elements in the circuit.

Second thing is to pay attention to the polarities of the DC sources, which are opposite of one another.

The basics of this are to add the voltages across each element going from location B to A.

So moving right to left we have...

Positive 8 V on the first DC supply
On the 4 ohm resistor we have -1/2A*4ohms = -2V
-2V on the next DC Supply do to the orientation of the symbol
And -1/2A*6ohms = -3V on the last resistor.

From here you add the components from B to A so

    8V-2V-2V-3V = 1V

Note if it was A to B all of your signs would be reversed and it would be -1V

    8-2=+6v
    0.5a*10ohm=-5v
    6-5=1v
